Liverpool boss Rodgers focused on Man Utd match

Thursday 20 September 2012

Brendan Rodgers has admitted his mind is not totally on Liverpool’s Europa League tie with Young Boys on Thursday, but rather he is already thinking ahead to the weekend’s Premier League encounter with Manchester United, according to Click Liverpool.

While Rodgers insists he has selected a team that can defeat Young Boys in Bern, he acknowledges that he has hedged his bets in an effort to save his most important players for the visit of United to Anfield on Sunday.

It will be Rodgers’ first meeting with United as Liverpool manager in what is always a frenzied match, with emotions this time heightened by it being Liverpool’s first home game since the publication of a report into the Hillsborough tragedy.

Rodgers is however guarding against injury by not selecting more than half-a-dozen first team regulars to travel to Switzerland, claiming that the players looked tired during their last post-Europa League trip in defeat to Arsenal.

He added: “There is no doubt the Premier League is our number one priority, I’ve made that clear from the off. If I lose some of my key players that can make it very difficult for us for the next two or three months.
