Chelsea's Mikel apologises for Champions League error

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has publicly apologised for the loose pass that gifted Juventus their equaliser as the Italian champions came back from 2-0 down to claim a draw at Stamford Bridge in their opening Champions League clash on Wednesday night.
After the defending champions had taken a two goal lead through full debutant Oscar, the Old Lady of Italian football pulled one back through Arturo Vidal before Mikel’s costly error gave Claudio Marchisio the freedom to play in Juve substitute Fabio Quagliarella for the equaliser.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Mikel held his hands up for his role in Juventus’ leveller.
“If I want to make up an excuse, I can,” Mikel said. “But, for me, I gave the ball away. I put my hands up, we move on. I’m sorry about the mistake, but there are no excuses.”
Chelsea find themselves trailing Shakhtar Donetsk in Group E after matchday one, who defeated the Blues’ next opponents FC Nordsjaelland of Denmark in the Donbass Arena.
Robert Di Matteo’s men welcome Stoke City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday as they look to continue their early unbeaten run on top of the Premier League, but may have to do without two-goal hero Oscar, who limped off with an ankle injury against Juventus.
