Buffon impressed by Chelsea midfielder Oscar

Friday 21 September 2012

Gianluigi Buffon has admitted he was impressed by Chelsea midfielder Oscar when the Blues hosted Buffon’s Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday, adding that he was proud just to have been part of the spectacular second goal scored by the Brazilian, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Oscar netted twice at Stamford Bridge, the first a long-range effort that deflected off the defender and left Buffon wrong-footed, but Oscar’s second goal involved no such element of luck.

The ball was played into the 21-year-old’s feet on the edge of the penalty area, and in virtually one move he flicked the ball into space, turned, and curled a stunning strike past the experienced Buffon. It was Oscar’s first start of his Chelsea career.

Oscar, a £25m summer signing from Brazilian side Internacional, later had to be substituted after a clumsy challenge from Juve defender Leonardo Bonucci, but Buffon felt he had already made his mark on the game. Juventus went on to take a point but Buffon said: “I will not say it's nice to concede a goal but it's nice to be part of a great goal like that, compliments to him.
