Wilshere returns to Arsenal training
Jack Wilshere has returned to training with Arsenal after more than a year out injured, the BBC has reported. Arsene Wenger however called for caution over the handling of Wilshere, stressing how fragile the England international still is.
Wilshere suffered an ankle injury in an August 2011 friendly and thanks to that and a series of other issues, has missed the last 14 months of playing time. He endured a further ankle problem in January 2012 and then underwent knee surgery in May, pushing his return back further.
Wenger said: “We have to give him a few training sessions to see how he copes and responds to it. That's the delicate, sensitive stage - to choose when to bring him in and out. We'll have to handle that day by day.”
Wilshere, 20, made his Arsenal debut as a substitute in September 2008 at the age of 16, becoming the club’s youngest ever league debutante in the process - breaking the record held by former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. Shortly after making his first team bow Wilshere netted his first Arsenal goal, against Sheffield United in the League Cup.
Further sporadic Arsenal appearances followed until a loan move to Bolton Wanderers during the second half of the 2009-10 season, after which came a return to the Emirates Stadium and an England debut in August 2010. Wilshere has five senior England caps.
