Chelsea's Mikel claims superb Oscar goal against Juventus was no one-off

Friday 21 September 2012

John Obi Mikel has claimed his Chelsea midfield teammate Oscar scores stunning goals akin to his effort against Juventus on Wednesday night on a regular basis in training.

The young Brazilian, making his full debut for the Blues since his big money summer move from native side Internacional, wowed the Stamford Bridge crowd in Chelsea’s opening Champions League clash as he put his side two goals up against the Italian champions, with his second goal a particularly superb strike.

However, according to the Daily Telegraph Mikel says none of the Chelsea team were at all surprised.

We have seen him in training smash balls in like that,” Mikel said. “We knew it was just a matter of time. The English game is not easy, it is very difficult to come in and straightaway adapt to it. It is going to take time for him.” Oscar has been eased into the Chelsea first team plans after a strenuous summer that saw him participated in the London Olympics for his country but Mikel says despite the 21-year-old’s slow start, he is now ready following his showing against Juventus, to produce more.

He’s making a great impact,” Mikel continued. “He’s such a good player. He can only get better. He is going to be a great player for this club. We have all seen what he can do [against Juventus] and hopefully he can keep going. He’s just a great player. His all-round game is very good, he can score goals, he is very creative and i think he is what this club is looking for.

Chelsea will aim to extend their unbeaten stay at the top of the Premier League when they welcome Stoke City to Stamford Bridge this weekend.
