West Ham vs Sunderland - Match preview and team news

Friday 21 September 2012

Sunderland will be in search of their first win of the season when they travel to London to face West Ham on Saturday.

The newly promoted Hammers have been enjoying life in the Premier League, and currently sit in eight position, just three points behind leaders Chelsea. Two wins and none conceded at Upton Park so far will give Sam Allardyce's side confidence in welcoming the Black Cats to play.

Sunderland have played a game less than most other sides, but remain unbeaten, following three draws, including ties against Arsenal and Liverpool. Martin O'Neill will however be keen to chalk up his first three points of the season.

West Ham could give a debut start to winger Matt Jarvis, after his big-money move from Wolves, while Andy Carroll is not yet fully recovered from his debut day hamstring injury to feature.

Another player who left Wolves in the summer, Steven Fletcher, has three goals in two starts, and will lead the attack for Sunderland. Adam Johnson is still out with a thigh problem, and joins Carlos Cuellar and Wes Brown on the treatment table.
