Newcastle v Norwich - Match preview and team news

By Adam Mazrani

Sunday 23 September 2012

A clash which sees Alan Pardew come up against the man he replaced as Newcastle manager in Chris Hughton. Newcastle have made a rather solid if not inspiring start to the season and have only been defeated once, away at league leaders Chelsea.

The Magpies gained a creditable draw away at Portuguese side Maritimo in the Europa League in midweek despite Pardew choosing to leave several first team regulars back at home. The likes of Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Jonas Gtierrez and Demba Ba are set to return for their clash with the Canaries on Sunday, while Pappis Cisse is set to be involved after missing the European clash with illness.

Elsewhere, Cheikh Tiote could return after being out since the opening day of the season with a calf injury, but Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring), Tim Krul (arm) and Ryan Taylor (knee) remain absent.

Norwich City remain winless in the Premier League under Chris Hughton but have stabilised somewhat since their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Fulham on the opening day, with three consecutive draws. The trip to the Sports Direct Arena will be tough but Norwich will be confident considering their performance in their last away match at Tottenham.

Hughton has no new injury concerns and could be boosted by the return of Elliot Bennet, who has been absent with a knee problem. Elsewhere, Simon Lappin’s ankle problem remains sufficient to keep him out while long term absentee Steven Whittaker is also missing, though he is not far away from a return.
