Roberto Mancini has admitted he and Mario Balotelli shared an angry exchange following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday, but he attempted to downplay the incident, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Mancini did not deny that he may have pushed Balotelli towards the tunnel after the final whistle after the striker, brought on with around five minutes to play, directed some choice words at the manager. Balotelli replaced Sergio Aguero but could not restore City’s advantage in the brief time he was on the field.

The Telegraph adds that Mancini appeared reluctant to discuss the incident, first claiming not to remember what happened between the pair, then agreeing he had “possibly shoved Balotelli. Mancini added: “I don’t know what happened after the game. I don’t know if he’s asked me something, but it’s not important. Mario probably thinks it was important. I don’t know. I will ask him next time I see him.

Mancini had previously claimed his patience with Balotelli was “endless”, following a long-running series of incidents involving Balotelli. They include the setting off of fireworks inside a house, the player’s continued decision to smoke against his manager’s wishes, and some discretions on the field as well.
