Arsenal can take belief from Man City draw, insists Wenger

Arsene Wenger feels Arsenal’s draw with Premier League champions Manchester City will boost the players' belief in their ability to usurp Roberto Mancini’s side at the top of the table, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Joleon Lescott put the champions in front with a header from a corner in the first-half, only for Laurent Koscielny to level the scores with less than 10 minutes to play. The Telegraph adds that a point was only fair on the Gunners, who were on top of the match for much of the opening 45 minutes before Lescott opened the scoring.

The point was Arsenal’s ninth of the season from their first five games and enough to keep them above City on goal difference. Arsenal are currently fifth in the table, four points behind league leaders Chelsea, with City in seventh. Fulham separate the sides.

Wenger agreed that Arsenal’s performance warranted a share of the spoils, with the manager noting it could have been all three points if they had taken their chances. He said: “I'm pleased because I feel it was the minimum we deserved. I'm pleased as well with the quality of our performance and our spirit. I'm a bit frustrated because I feel there was room to do more.

We had early chances and of course very late chances, especially the chance of Gervinho at the edge of the box where we missed the target. But overall I hope the game will reinforce our belief, our confidence and reassure us about our potential in this league.
