Vilas-Boas praises Tottenham fans after claiming first home win of the season

Monday 24 September 2012

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas hailed the Tottenham fans for their support despite being booed off at half-time, with his Spurs side 1-0 down to QPR thanks to a goal from Bobby Zamora.

However, after a second-half which saw the crowd get behind their team and eventually the Lilywhites scored two goals in the space of a minute to take their first home victory in front of their own fans, the Daily Mail reports Villas-Boas had nothing but praise for the Spurs faithful.

We have wanted this home win for some time but for whatever reason it has escaped us,” Villas-Boas said. “It's an important win for the team. We wanted to repay the fans for the trust they have put in us so that's why everyone felt emotional at the end.

Spurs endured a shaky start to the season after the appointment of Villas-Boas to replace Harry Redknapp in the summer and failed to claim a victory in their first three Premier League outings. However, the last week has brought the 34-year-old some much needed relief with two home wins against Reading and Queens Park Rangers while also avoiding defeat in their opening Europa League clash with Lazio.

Tottenham next travel to Carlisle on Wednesday in the third round of the Capital One Cup before travelling to Old Trafford to face the challenge of Manchester United three days later.
