Di Matteo hails impact made at Chelsea by Moses

Tuesday 25 September 2012

Roberto Di Matteo has praised the start made to life at Chelsea by Victor Moses, the Nigerian winger signed over the summer from Wigan Athletic, the BBC has reported.

Moses has only appeared as a substitute thus far but Di Matteo spoke highly of the player, joking that he was pleased nobody else had noticed just how good Moses had become, allowing Chelsea to swoop for his signature unopposed.

Di Matteo said: “He's a player I like very much and he will have a big influence in our season. He's strong at holding the ball, his dribbling ability is very good. He can go past defenders, which not many can, he's got the pace as well and he's very good at making runs in behind.

The manager also revealed he had tried to sign Moses before he became Chelsea boss, suggesting that Di Matteo was keen to bring Moses to his former club West Bromwich Albion.

Moses, who can play as a winger or a more orthodox striker, moved to Wigan from Crystal Palace in January 2010, spending two-and-a-half years at the DW Stadium under the tutelage of Roberto Martinez. In his time at Wigan, Moses made 79 appearances, scoring nine goals, and helping the Latics avoid relegation to the Championship.
