Walcott to play for Arsenal in Capital One Cup

Wednesday 26 September 2012

Theo Walcott will be part of the Arsenal side that plays Coventry City in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, but the Daily Mirror reports that the England international will not get his wish of playing as a striker.

Instead, the newspaper claims, Walcott will continue to be used as a winger - that is despite revealing earlier this week that one of the key reasons why he has stalled over signing a new contract with the Emirates Stadium outfit is his discontent at playing wide rather than through the middle.

Olivier Giroud, the £11m summer signing from Montpellier, is expected to start as the team’s centre-forward, with Wenger keen to give the France international the chance to score his first Arsenal goal.

In what could be a strong Arsenal side, Giroud and Walcott will likely be joined by England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Russia star Andrei Arshavin, Brazilian left-back Andre Santos and Swiss centre-back John Djourou.
