Man Utd's Vidic facing two months out

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is expected to miss the next two months of football after undergoing knee surgery, the BBC has reported.
The Serbian did not play for United in their weekend win over Liverpool at Anfield after complaining of a sore knee. The centre-back underwent tests to get to the root of the problem and it was discovered to be more serious than first thought, with little choice but to operate to cure the ailment.
Vidic has a history of knee problems, having missed five months of last season after ruptured ligaments in his knee during a Champions League tie with Basel in December 2011. A statement from the club confirmed Vidic had surgery on his right knee and will be unavailable for the next eight weeks.
The BBC adds that Vidic’s injury comes at a difficult time for United, who were already stretched defensively due to a number of fitness issues plaguing the team’s back line. Currently missing are England internationals Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, who have been ruled out with a broken metatarsal and a knee injury respectively, although Smalling could return to training in the near future.
