Wednesday 26 September 2012

Andre Villas-Boas’ Tottenham side make the trip to Brunton Park and are expected to make wholesale changes to the team that achieved the Lillywhites’ first victory at White Hart Lane this season agains QPR on Sunday.

Tottenham do have history in the League Cup having achieved victory in the competition under Juande Ramos back in 2008 before reaching the final under Harry Redknapp a year later.

France international goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris is expected to replace current first choice Brad Friedel in goal for Spurs, while the likes of Steven Caulker, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Clint Dempsey could all take their places in the Tottenham line up.

However, Villas-Boas’ attempts to rotate his squad will be limited due to the injury problems at White Hart Lane at the minute, with Emmanuel Adebayor, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Younes Kaboul, Jake Livermore, Kyle Naughton and Scott Parker all missing through various injuries.

Home side Carlisle are currently in 10th position in League One having gone five games without defeat and are hopeful of a sell-out at Brunton Park ahead of the visit of the Premier League heavyweights.

Paul Thirwell and Danny Livesey could both recover from head injuries in time to play although on-loan striker Joe Garner is cup-tied. Main striker Lee Miller is also unavailable for the Cumbrian side due to injury
