Arsenal boss Wenger asks Walcott for patience

By Andrew Tuft

Thursday 27 September 2012

Arsene Wenger wants Theo Walcott to be patient in his desire to play as a striker for Arsenal, the BBC has reported.

Walcott this week revealed that his discontent at playing on the right wing is part of the reason that he has hesitated over signing a new contract to stay at the Emirates Stadium. His current deal expires next summer and Walcott has so far rejected Arsenal’s advances.

Wenger gave Walcott only his second start of the season - and first since the opening day - in the 6-1 Capital One Cup victory over Coventry City on Wednesday. Beginning the match on the right wing, Walcott scored twice.

The manager said after the match that he hopes Walcott will remain at the club and added that all sides will be professional while the contractual situation goes on. When asked about the chances of Walcott playing as Arsenal’s centre-forward, Wenger continued: “His time will come for that and at the moment we have to be a bit patient.

I'm not against it…but we try and at the moment there is big competition up front, we have a different formula and the team is doing well.
