Tottenham aiming for Capital One Cup victory

Bookmark and Share

By Andrew Tuft

Thursday 27 September 2012

Despite only playing one fixture in the competition Tottenham Hotspur assistant head coach Steffen Freund says the club are already looking towards the Capital One Cup final at Wembley, according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs saw off League One side Carlisle 3-0 thanks to goals from Andros Townsend, Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson and now face Norwich City in the last 16. And with eight Premier League sides, including Newcastle United, Everton and Manchester City, eliminated from the tournament already, Freund believes Tottenham have an excellent chance of making the latter stages.

He said: “I know eight Premier League sides are already out, and there are only two games and then we are in the semi-final.” Freund added that as part of the Tottenham side that won the competition in 1999 he understands how special a competitive fixture - and victory - at Wembley can be.

Tottenham and Freund won the League Cup in 1999 thanks to a last minute goal from Allan Nielsen, the Danish midfielder. Leicester City were the opponents for a Spurs side containing the likes of Sol Campbell, Darren Anderton, David Ginola and Les Ferdinand, with George Graham the successful manager.
