Rodgers welcomes Liverpool cup draw with Swansea

Thursday 27 September 2012

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers holds no trepidation at the prospect of facing former club Swansea City in the next round of the Capital One Cup, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The Reds made it through to the last 16 by beating West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns, with two goals from on-loan midfielder Nuri Sahin cancelling out Gabriel Tamas’ opener for the home side.

Tamas struck in the third minute when Brad Jones, replacing Pepe Reina in goal, failed to hold on to a free-kick and the defender capitalised. Sahin though restored parity around 15 minutes later and added the decisive goal with less than 10 minutes of the tie to play.

Swansea meanwhile overcame a spirited Crawley Town side 3-2, with Garry Monk settling the tie in the 90th minute after the League One side had taken a second-half lead. Michu put the Swans ahead but the home side fought back, with Danny Graham levelling before Monk’s intervention.

Rodgers said: “[Swansea] is a wonderful, brilliant club. I was in no rush to leave there and would only go from there to go to another special club. In this competition you prefer home games than to travel so to play Swansea at Anfield with two wonderful sets of supporters, I am sure it will be a really good night.”

It was also a landmark night for Liverpool as Jerome Sinclair became the club’s youngest ever player when he made a substitute appearance at the age of 16 years and six days. The striker replaced Samed Yesil late on.
