Arsenal set to miss out on Biglia

Thursday 27 September 2012

Arsene Wenger’s desire to replace Alex Song with Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia has been dealt a blow by the news the Argentina international is open to a move back to his homeland with Boca Juniors, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The 26-year-old was said to be on Wenger’s shortlist to replace Song, who joined Barcelona this summer, but Biglia appears to have his heart set on the prospect of playing for Boca. He told the Argentinean media that he would welcome the interest from Boca, particularly as he already knows the club’s Coach - Julio Cesar Falcioni - very well.

Arsenal are not the first Premier League club to express an interest in the former Independiente player, either, as the Mirror claims Norwich City were previously keen on Biglia and attempted to bring him to Carrow Road with a doomed loan approach.

Biglia has made a handful of appearances for the Argentina national team since his debut in 2011, and has won three Belgian league titles for Andelecht, as well as the Belgian Cup in almost 200 appearances for the club.

Who says we have not replaced Song? Who needs Biglia? Where would he play? Only those fresh from Mars can say we have not replaced Song. Arteta is a faaaaar better holding midfielder than the Cameroonian, no doubt. Arsenal don't need Biglia at all. Rosicky, Wilshere, Coquelin, Frimpong are yet to stamp their authority on the team this season with some injured and others well behind the pecking order. Where would Biglia play? Besides, he was linked to Norwich in the closing stages of the transfer window, not Arsenal. We don't need him, as Wenger has also publicly rejected links with him I hate the habit of the media linking players to us when we actually are not interested in them, so that when they end up going elsewhere, they conclude that we've been beaten to their signature. I don't think Boca would beat Arsenal to any player if we are genuinely interested in them, really!
