Arsenal vs. Chelsea the most expensive Premier League game ever

Bookmark and Share

By Adam Mazrani

Thursday 27 September 2012

Saturday afternoon’s lunchtime kick off between London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea at the Emirates stadium is according to the Daily Mirror set to be the most expensive Premier League match of all time.

With the cheapest general admission ticket set to be priced at £62, Arsenal’s match-day income could top £6m. The rise in price is due to Arsenal’s new ticket grading system, which sees the lesser Premier League games against the likes of newly-promoted Southampton and Reading priced at £35, nearly £10 cheaper than last year. This loss if offset by the higher-profile clashes, which this weekend’s Chelsea match fits into, being placed at more extortionate prices.

Both sides cruised through to the next round of the League Cup this week with big scores at home to lower league competition. The Gunners thumped Coventry 6-1 at a sold-out Emirates Stadium with two goals from Theo Walcott, while Chelsea managed to keep a clean sheet in their 6-0 victory over Wolves at Stamford Bridge and included John Terry in the starting line-up.
