Mancini confident Man City will retain Premier League title

Saturday 29 September 2012

Roberto Mancini believes Manchester City will win back-to-back Premier League titles, the BBC has reported, despite his side’s slow start to the new season and the manager admitting it is more difficult to defend the trophy than win it for the first time.

City have won only twice this season, against newly-promoted Southampton on the opening day of the season and one of last year’s relegation strugglers Queens Park Rangers, both at home, and were knocked out of the League Cup on their own ground in midweek.

Mancini’s side have also failed to keep a clean sheet in any game in this campaign, conceding 14 goals in their first seven games in all competitions, including seven in five league games and four in the League Cup defeat to Aston Villa. In reply, City have scored 10 goals, seven fewer than at the same point last season, something Mancini put down to the absence of Sergio Aguero through injury.

The Italian added: “We need to stay calm and work hard. We will win the title (but) I agree it is more difficult the second year.
