Rodgers hails potential of Liverpool youngster Wisdom

Brendan Rodgers believes Andre Wisdom can be part of the Liverpool set-up for many years to come, the Liverpool Echo has reported, while the manager has also suggested he sees Wisdom as possessing the qualities needed to be a top-class full-back.

Wisdom and Suso are, along with Raheem Sterling, the three teenagers to have impressed under Rodgers, filling in gaps in the side and, in Wisdom’s case, doing so while playing out of position. The Echo notes that when the 17-year-old Sterling lined up alongside Wisdom, 18, and Suso, 19, it was the first time in more than four years Liverpool have named three teenagers in the starting XI in the Premier League.

And while Wisdom and Suso were in more familiar forward positions, Wisdom was tasked with playing at right-back, a position he has filled before under Rodgers in cup competitions but not his natural berth. But Rodgers feels that Wisdom, a centre-back by trade, has what it takes to make the right-back spot his own in the long-term.

Rodgers said: “When I came in, Andre Wisdom had been playing a lot at centre-half but he has the physical and technical capacity to play full-back. The modern day full-back has a lot of the ball and he has got to have strength, pace and power. Andre has that.
