Too soon to tell on Sahin’s long-term Liverpool future, says Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers insists it is too early to say if he will be able to bring Nuri Sahin to Liverpool on a permanent basis after his loan spell from Real Madrid comes to an end, the Liverpool Echo has reported.

Nuri Sahin

Sahin moved to Anfield on a season-long loan from the Spanish champions in August and has impressed in recent weeks, scoring three times in his last two games and forming a midfield unit with fellow new signing Joe Allen and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

While Rodgers agreed that Sahin’s recent form has been of a high standard, the former Swansea City manager downplayed the chances of the Turkey international making the move permanent. Rodgers insisted it was too early to judge whether Sahin was a good fit for the club, and added that since so much about any full-time switch would depend on Madrid, there was little point in moving so fast.

Rodgers said: “I don’t look beyond the loan period because there are lots of things which will determine whether he ever comes here. One has to be availability. [Jose Mourinho] may decide that he is the type of player he wants around his squad. He might not be affordable. Affordability is important as well.

All I can concentrate on is Sahin coming in here and helping him become the best player he can possibly be. If he finds he enjoys it here and he first into the way we work…then that is something come the end of the season we will talk about.
