Lucas Digne is being watched by two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, as the Daily Mail reports the young Lille defender has caught the eye of both Manchester United and Chelsea.

Lucas Digne

Digne, 19, is said to be the reason scouts from both clubs were present during Lille’s Friday evening match with Rennes. Lille were defeated 2-0 thanks to a goal from Julien Feret, after an error by goalkeeper Mickael Landreau, with Romain Alessandrini adding the second.

Having progressed through the youth team ranks at Lille, Digne has this season started to establish himself in the club’s first team having made his bow during the last campaign. A France youth international at a number of levels, Digne has 12 appearances for Les Bleus’ Under-19s to his name and more than 20 senior appearances for his club.

The Mail speculates that United are looking for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, with Digne possibly competing with new signing Alex Buttner for that role, while Chelsea are claimed by the newspaper to be preparing for life after Ashley Cole, particularly if the England defender declines to sign a new contract.
