Daniel Agger is ready to end speculation around his Liverpool future once and for all by signing a new long-term contract to stay at Anfield, the Liverpool Echo has reported.

Premier League champions Manchester City were interested in the Denmark international over the summer and Agger’s apparent hesitation over a new deal appeared to give Liverpool cause for concern regarding the centre-backs long-term future, but that is expected to be put to bed once Agger puts pen to paper.

The Echo reveals that talks between the Agger camp and the club began last month and should be completed soon, meaning the player’s contract will last well beyond the current expiration date of 2014.

Agger has been with Liverpool since 2006, moving from Brondby in his homeland. The 27-year-old is a veteran of more than 150 games for the Reds, with more than 50 international caps as well.

It was recently revealed that Agger is continuing to play despite suffering a minor fracture to his kneecap in Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United last month, commitment for which Brendan Rodgers has been fulsome in his praise.
