Mancini thanks Hart for saving Man City’s Champions League chances
Roberto Mancini believes Manchester City have goalkeeper Joe Hart to thank for keeping them in the Champions League after the England international made a series of saves against Borussia Dortmund, the BBC has reported.
City snatched what Mancini described as an underserved draw though a late Mario Balotelli penalty, but the manager added that if it was not for the form of Hart, City would have long been out of the tie before Balotelli converted from 12 yards.
Marco Reus had put Dortmund in front just after the hour mark but Hart was unable to prevent the goal after a Jack Rodwell error, while the ‘keeper had been called into action throughout the match. He saved three efforts from Mario Gotze in the first-half, pushing one on to the post and another the crossbar, and later prevented Illkay Gundogan from putting the German side in front.
There were more saves from Hart to come in the second-half and Mancini was fulsome in his praise for the 25-year-old. He said: “Joe saved us. He did well. We deserved to concede three or four goals. We didn't play well. It was a fantastic performance. I don't know if it is the best performance in football history but he did very well.”
