Harry Redknapp does not intend to become the new manager of Bournemouth, the BBC has reported, despite the former Tottenham Hotspur boss serving as an advisor to the League One club.

Paul Groves was sacked by the Cherries on Wednesday, having taken charge at Dean Court in March. Initially appointed as caretaker boss, Groves was handed the job full-time in May had won only once this season, with Bournemouth languishing in 20th after 10 games, out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Once Groves was removed from his post by chairman Eddie Mitchell, Redknapp’s name was immediately bandied about as a potential replacement. But the man himself insists he has no interest in taking the role, and downplayed his involvement in the club he managed for nine years.

Redknapp rated his chances of taking the job as so: “Not a chance, not a prayer. That is definitely not on my agenda. I was asked if I would get a little bit involved, but I haven't really, to be honest.

All I have done is watch two or three games. I love the club - they are my local club and I really want to see them succeed,” the 65-year-old told Five Live.

The BBC notes that amongst the names linked with the vacancy are former Reading manager Steve Coppell, ex-England boss Glenn Hoddle, Steve Cotterill, formerly of Nottingham Forest, and Eddie Howe, currently of Burnley but another ex-Bournemouth manager.
