Wigan v Everton - Match preview and team news

Wigan welcome an in-form Everton team to the DW Stadium looking for their first league win since the second week of the season at newly-promoted Southampton. The Latics remain without a win at home this season although Roberto Martinez will take heart from their last two performances, a thumping League Cup win at West Ham and an encouraging display in a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland despite being reduced to 10 men.

Jordi Gomez, the recipient of that card at the Stadium of Light is available to Martinez after the FA rescinded the decision. Elsewhere, Antolin Alcaraz remains absent with a groin problem while Franco Di Santo could start now that he is fully recovered from the knock that has dogged him over the last couple of weeks.

David Moyes’ Everton team are in quite superb side at the moment, with their last two league wins yielding six goals and some sparkling football that Moyes himself would claim was worthy of the entrance fee. The Toffees currently lie in second place just three points off the top and dreaming of Champions League football.

Moyes will remain without Tony Hibbert and Darron Gibson for their trip to the North West and so he is likely to stick with the same side that put Southampton to the sword in their last fixture, with the predatory Nikica Jelavic and commanding Marouane Fellaini spearheading an attack that at the moment looks capable of scoring every time it comes forward.
