Liverpool set their sights on PSV winger
Brendan Rodgers is reportedly already drawing up his January transfer targets and according to the Metro, is already planning a bid for PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens.
The Belgium international would be able to play on either flank and would help alleviate Liverpool’s current attacking malaise, which sees nominal striker Fabio Borini playing on the right-wing and youngsters such as Raheem Sterling, Suso and Samed Yesil being given a regular opportunity in the first team squad.
Mertens enjoyed a prolific 2011-12 season, his first as a PSV player, with 21 goals in 33 games from a wide position and has already grabbed four so far this season, along with six assists from only seven games.
After finally getting their first Premier League win under Brendan Rodgers last week at Norwich, Liverpool slumped to a Europa League defeat at home to Udinese in midweek to somewhat temper the feel-good factor that has been swirling around Anfield of late.
