Tottenham v Aston Villa - Match preview and team news

Sunday 07 October 2012

Tottenham are looking to put their disappointing Europa League draw with Panathinaikos behind them as they search for a fourth consecutive Premier League win.

White Hart Lane

The Lillywhites are still buoyant from their historic victory over Manchester United last weekend, their first win at Old Trafford in 23 years and boss Andre Villas-Boas will be pleased to be able to call on Emmanuel Adebyaor after the Togo striker missed four weeks with a hamstring injury. Elsewhere, Hugo Lloris is expected to drop the bench once again to make way for Brad Friedel’s return while Sandro and William Gallas should also return in place of Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson.

Paul Lambert has endured a difficult week at Aston Villa after a dispute with former club Norwich was publicly announced. However, his most pressing issue is attempting to notch the Villains’ first league away win this season and in particular, whether Darren Bent should return to the starting line up against his former club after the England international was dropped against West Brom last week only for him to score the equaliser from the bench.

Lambert will have to do without Richard Dunne and Stephen Ireland however with the two Irishmen long-term absentees with groin and arm problems respectively.
