Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has spoken of his desire to make up for the injury problems that restricted his contribution last season, and according to the Daily Mirror, develop himself as a key player for both club and country.

Cleverley made a sparkling start to last season but after suffering ankle ligament damage early on, was restricted to only 15 appearances. However, the 23-year-old has recovered to cement himself as an integral member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad this season, where he has already notched his first two goals for the club in quick succession.

International honours have also arrived, with Roy Hodgson handing him his debut in the August friendly with Italy before naming him as a starter in England’s first two World Cup qualifiers.

I am enjoying it massively,” said the Basingstoke-born midfielder. “Everyone knows I had some injuries last season so to be at United and in the England squad is something I am hugely proud of and I hope this season just carries on.

I’m very excited about the future," Cleverley added. “We have only had the opening couple of months of the season but I have played at massive stadiums in some huge games already, so it is all very good in terms of gaining experience.

Cleverley is in contention for England’s qualification match against minnows San Marino at Wembley, before Hodgson’s men face Poland in Warsaw four days later.
