Manchester City target Malaga starlet Isco

Manchester City have set their sights on Spanish midfielder Isco as their primary January transfer target after cooling moves for Radamel Falcao and Steven Jovetic. Manager Roberto Mancini was seen scouting Falcao in Spain last weekend while Jovetic has been a long-time target of the English champions.

However, according to Goal.com, Isco’s impressive early season form coupled with a relatively low £16.9 million release clause has put the Malaga playmaker top of the queue.

Isco has starred for cash-strapped Malaga so far this season, who already had to let go Santi Cazorla to Arsenal on the eve of the season’s start. The Spanish Under-21 international has scored three times in nine appearances this term, including a superb double in Malaga’s opening Champions League victory over Zenit St. Petersburg.

Indeed, the club’s sporting director Mario Armando Husillos has already admitted that he faces a struggle to keep their asset.

"Isco is our player and is a very important member of the team,” Husillos said. “He's not for sale. We want to keep him here, but everyone knows that players have a release clause. So, if a club meets this clause, it will be out of our hands.”
