Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has said that he expects the club’s fixtures after the international break to be their toughest of the season so far.

The European champions have made an impressive start to the season and currently top the Premier League after seven matches, only dropping points in their draw at QPR.

However, versatile defender Ivanovic, who has contributed to his side’s success by scoring three times from right-back, has warned that with clashes against Tottenham and twice against Manchester United in both the league and League Cup, as well as a daunting trip to Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk, the Blues cannot afford to let up on the pressure.

“The international break is a good time to enjoy our position but there is a very important period coming up for us after the break,” said Ivanovic according to Clubcall.com.

“It’s always very difficult to play the game after the internatioanl break, but especially when it’s big opponents like Tottenham away. The game will be decided by things like when you are back form your international duty and how tired you are - the small details. So it’s going to be tough for us.”

Ivanovic is currently away with the Serbia squad and after their 2-0 defeat to Belgium on Friday, currently lie third in Group A, ahead of British pair Wales and Scotland, who saw their Battle of Britain clash settled by a superb goal from Gareth Bale to give the Welsh a late 2-1 victory.
