Tottenham news - Spurs chase £20m Forlan, Redknapp tops Liverpool wanted list, Dawson speaks out on England exclusion

By Luke Ricketts

Friday 04 June 2010

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Tottenham. Today:

Spurs chase £20m Forlan.

Tottenham are set to make a £20 million bid for Atletico Madrid’s Diego Forlan, according to the Daily Star. Harry Redknapp is looking to strengthen his squad for the Champions League next season and believes the 31-year-old fits the bill. The Spurs boss has said he would be willing to sell Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane in order to make a bid for the Uruguayan striker. Atletico knew they would have to sell players this summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Redknapp tops Liverpool wanted list.

Harry Redknapp is among other names to be chalked up by Kenny Dalglish as a possible replacement for Rafael Benitez, according to a report by The Mirror. The Tottenham manager is said to be at the top on the most wanted list after leading Spurs into the top four of the Premier League. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is yet to offer a new and improved contract to Redknapp who could be tempted by an offer from Liverpool.

Dawson speaks out on England exclusion.

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson said his ‘legs turned to jelly’ when he got the phone call from Fabio Capello. Dawson was one of the seven players to hear bad news from the other end of the line on Tuesday when the 23-man squad was announced. He spoke at the release of EA Sports’ 2010 FIFA World Cup video Game: “I was thinking, ‘That could have been me.’” Dawson was given no explanation to why he was left out but was told to “keep doing what I’m doing and he’d be watching me for the Euro 2012 qualifiers.”
