Real Madrid back in for Gerrard and Rooney

By Mushtaq Quraishi

Thursday 17 June 2010

Real Madrid are set to prise Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney away from the Premier League with a stunning £110m bid according to the Daily Star. Madrid, who are now managed by Jose Mourinho, have targeted Rooney to reunite with former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu next season. It is thought that the Spanish club are willing to match the staggering £80m they paid for Ronaldo, in order to persuade Rooney to move away from the debt-ridden Manchester United.

Steven Gerrard is also on Mourinho’s radar and is reportedly his number one transfer target of the summer, with the Portuguese coach ready to pay up to £30m for the Liverpool and England skipper. The financial situation is also precarious at Anfield, therefore it is logical to realise that Liverpool may take the money for the talismanic midfielder who is now in his thirties.
