Arsenal news - Almunia to stay 1st teamer, Walcott responds to critics, Gunners 'keeper in England action

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

Walcott responds to critics.
Theo Walcott has stated that he wishes to answer his critics by doing his talking on the pitch. The 21-year-old has had an impressive start to the new season, but that was not enough to prevent criticism, notably from Alan Hansen on Match of the Day. The former Southampton player scored a hat-trick against Blackpool last weekend, and has recently been recalled to the England squad after missing out on the World Cup this summer. Speaking to Sky Sports, Walcott said: “I have been around for a long time and this is the season to push on, prove people wrong and play every game when I can with no injuries.”
Gunners 'keeper in England action.
England coach Fabio Capello has offered fifth-choice Arsenal goalkeeper James Shea the chance to train with the full England squad, reports The Guardian. Capello hopes that Ben Foster and Scott Carson will return to full training in time for the matches. The 19-year-old impressed in the club's youth side last season, and has trained with England No.1 Joe Hart ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland - where he was chipped from 18 yards by Manchester United's Wayne Rooney in a practice match. Arsenal team-mate Theo Walcott said: "He was enjoying it, apart from Wazza's chip!"
Almunia to stay 1st teamer.
The summer-long goalkeeping saga at the Emirates was concluded with the closing of the transfer window yesterday - unfortunately without resolution. Imscouting.com reports that Arsenal tabled a late £4m bid for Fulham's Mark Schwarzer, with personal terms having already been agreed. The Cottagers, however, were unable to land a suitable replacement when they refused to meet Crystal Palace's valuation for Julian Speroni, and were too late in their efforts to capture Roma stopper Doni on loan. The outcome means Arsenal fans will still be watching the likes of Manuel Almunia or Lucasz Fabianski in goal for the Gunners at least until January.
