Manchester United news - United squad announced, Rio regaining fitness, United Bebe gamble exposed

By Daniel Tyler

Thursday 02 September 2010

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Man Utd. Today:

Hargreaves in squad.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has included Owen Hargreaves in his 25-man Premier League squad. Some reports suggested that the former Bayern Munich man was not going to get a place due to his horrific injury record at Old Trafford. Even yesterday Ferguson said he was still unsure on the midfielder who has not started a game for United since September 2008. The England international will now be looking to get back to full fitness and force his way into the Red Devils midfield.

Rio nears return.

Rio Ferdinand could be fit for Manchester United’s next Premier League game, reports Sky Sports. The 31-year-old has not played since sustaining knee ligament damage in England’s World Cup training camp - an injury which ruled the Three Lions captain out of the tournament. The former Leeds man has recovered quicker than expected and came through 45 minutes of United’s reserve game with Oldham last night unscathed. The defender could now be fit to face Everton on September 11.

Bebe overpay.

Manchester United could have signed Bebe for as less as £125 000. The relatively unknown striker was a surprise transfer this summer with manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitting he has never seen the 20-year-old play. Despite this, the Scot was willing to splash out £7.4m for the hitman who had signed for Vitória on a free transfer just five months earlier. The Mail has now reported that his first club Estrela da Amadora were offering the Portuguese man to clubs for £125 000 in January to ease the club’s financial crisis.
