Tottenham news - Van der Vaart excited by Spurs challenge, Keane rejected Besiktas move, Woodgate left out of 25-man squad

By Luke Ricketts

Thursday 02 September 2010

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Tottenham. Today:

Van der Vaart excited by Spurs challenge.

Rafael Van der Vaart has told The Mail he is looking forward to a beautiful future with Tottenham Hotspur after the club convinced the Premier League the deal had been completed before the transfer window closed on Tuesday evening. Spurs paid £8.7m for the Dutch playmaker and is set to make his debut against West Bromwich Albion after the Euro 2012 qualifiers have been played. He told reporters: “I am excited about playing in England and I am very proud of the transfer.”

Keane rejected Besiktas move.

Robbie Keane is believed to have rejected an £8m bid to join Turkish club Besiktas at the end of the transfer window. The Republic of Ireland international has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane all summer, including as part of a deal to sign Aston Villa’s Ashley Young, but the Daily Mail claim Besiktas made a late bid for the striker, with all the necessary requirements in place to make the deal swift and proper, only for Keane to turn it down.

Woodgate left out of 25-man squad.

According to the Northern Echo website, injury stricken defender Jonathon Woodgate has been left out of Harry Redknapp’s 25-man squad after it was announced last night. Woodgate has not played since November of last year and is still suffering with an ongoing groin injury that has kept him from training with the rest of the squad. The troubled defender has travelled to America and Australia to see specialists in hope of saving his career, but Redknapp fears he may have to retire.
