Chelsea news - Spartak want Zhirkov, Lampard very happy to be playing for Chelsea, Capello not worried about Lampard and Terry

By Siobhan McCall

Friday 03 September 2010

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Chelsea. Today:

Spartak want Zhirkov.

According to The Daily Mail, Yuri Zhirkov could be given a route out of Chelsea by their Champions League group stage opponents Spartak Moscow. The Russian, who can play left-back or left-wing, has only made 17 appearances since his £18m move from CSKA Moscow last season. His Blues career has been in the main part hampered by injuries to both knees and Russia boss Dick Advoccaat warned him last week that he faces losing his place if he is not playing regular football. Chelsea, however, rebuffed Zenit St Petersburg when they enquired about his availability this summer but Spartak boss Valeri Karpin believes he can sign the versatile player when the transfer window reopens. He stated: “I was interested, I am now and I will be in the winter.”

Lampard very happy to be playing for Chelsea.

Goal.com reports that Frank Lampard feels privileged to be playing for the current Chelsea team. Speaking to the club’s official magazine, he lavished praise on his teammates and declared: He also stated his belief that winning, regardless of the scoreline, is most important: “The fans enjoy it, we enjoy it, but it's not reality winning sixes, sevens and eights. We've got to be ready for teams who shut up shop against us so that we have to find a way to make a breakthrough. Those are the games where you have to find a goal from nowhere and be happy with a 1-0 win.”

Capello not worried about Lampard and Terry.

Ahead of England’s Euro 2012 opening qualifier against Bulgaria, Fabio Capello has revealed he is unfazed about the withdrawals of Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and John Terry. Even though both featured for the Blues at the weekend, Capello admits that he understands their predicament. Lampard is having a groin operation and Terry has a hamstring injury which he has been carrying all season. The England boss told Press Association Sport: “We know Frank Lampard needs an operation to be ready for his club and the next game with us. John Terry has been playing with an injection because all the other Chelsea defenders were injured. He told us he had to stay at home because he cannot play all the games. At half-time in the game against Hungary he said he couldn't carry on. He was with us then. Now he needs to relax in order to be fit for the next games.”
