Newcastle news - Magpies chase Barcelona youngster, Hughton pleased with additions, Taylor could leave for free
Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Newcastle. Today:

Magpies chase Barcelona youngster.
Barcelona youngster Oriol Romeu is being targeted by Newcastle United as a potential signing, Spanish Daily Sport reports. The 18-year-old wonderkid has been viewed by the Magpies in the past and if he fails to sign a contract extension with the Spanish giants, he could move on the cheap. The defensive midfielder has a whole host of Premier League clubs to choose from, with Newcastle having to battle with Premier League rivals Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham for Romeu’s services.
Hughton pleased with additions.
Newcastle manager Chris Hughton believes his new summer signings give him more options, the Newcastle Journal reports. After the international break, Hughton will have new boys Chieck Tote, Hatem Ben Arfa and Sol Campbell at his disposal and he knows that the new signings will give the team another dimension. Hughton said: “Our squad is definitely stronger. It isn’t just about what we’ve got today or the next day, it is about coping when we’re stretched with injuries and hopefully we are better equipped to do that now.”
Taylor could leave for free.
Newcastle defender Steven Taylor is a free agent target for Manchester City, the Metro reports. The 24-year-old’s contract negotiations with Newcastle have been stalling and if he cannot agree a new deal before his old one runs out, City will get Taylor on the cheap. Taylor was placed on the transfer list last month, as Newcastle officials chase frantically to get some money for the player, but no official bids have been made. Now, clubs will wait for Taylor’s contract to run out so they can get him for next to nothing.
