Chelsea news - Alves rubbishes Blues link, Marseille tried for Drogba, Ancelotti chases improvement

By Siobhan McCall

Friday 10 September 2010

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Chelsea. Today:

Ancelotti chases improvement.

Carlo Ancelotti is determined to continue bringing success to Chelsea. According to Goal.com the Double-winning manager strives for continuous improvement and despite the club’s perfect start to the new campaign, he believes there is room for more. He declared: “ In football there are a lot of things, a lot of details that you can always improve. Every experience can give you the possibility to improve. I had good experience before I came here and now I think I improved with this experience. There are not a lot of differences between Italy and England, but I think the English players have a stronger mentality, they like to work very hard on the pitch every day." The former AC Milan coach also added that he has a great relationship with his players: “I think it is better if you can explain things, mistakes, without shouting. Now after one year my relationship with the players is very close, so they can understand me very well and I can understand them very well. If you shout all the time they do not listen."

Marseille tried for Drogba.

Marseille President Jean-Claude Dassier has revealed that his club made a shock summer move for Didier Drogba. The Ivorian, who scored 27 goals for Chelsea last season, played for the Provence club during 2003/2004 and he soon become a cult hero at the Stade Veledrome. The Daily Mail reports that L’OM attempted to lure the striker, who joined Chelsea in a £24m deal back in 2004, back to his former home but the Blues firmly rejected the offer. Dassier confirmed that rumours about Marseille’s attempts to sign Drogba were genuine: “ We tried to bring in Drogba, but this has not been possible,” and he suggested that the French Champions may make another attempt in January. “We'll see, you should never give up in life." TalkSPORT , however, suggests that OM are likely to move for wantaway Wigan striker Charles N’Zogbia instead.

Alves rubbishes Blues link.

Dani Alves has squashed rumours of a January move to Chelsea or Manchester City and he instead insisted that he has a long term future at Barcelona. According to the Daily Mail , the world’s most expensive right-back initially believed he would be heading for the exit at the Nou Camp after he failed to earn a new contract at the end of last season. The change of President at the club, however, has made Alves confident that he can have a long career with the Catalans. The £28m signing from Sevilla revealed: “ The offer for renewal was not very serious.” New president Sandro Rosell, however, has sanctioned fresh talks and Alves stated: “I've had the chance to talk to [new directors] Josep Maria Bartomeu and Andoni Zubizarreta, and found a great willingness to reach an agreement.”
