Arsenal news - Gunners sign Alvarez? Clichy wants new deal, Fabregas bid rejected

Gunners sign Alvarez?

According to claims made by Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini, Arsenal have made their first signing this summer in Ricardo Alvarez. Palermo and Arsenal were forerunners to a whole host of European clubs in pursuit of the 23-year-old Argentine after a number of standout performances helped Velez Sarsfield secure the league title last season. “We were interested in Alvarez,” said Zamparini to Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss. “We lost him due to our mistake and I know that he has already signed for Arsenal.”

Fabregas bid rejected.

Barcelona’s bid to sign Cesc Fabregas this summer has taken another nose dive after Arsenal rejected the Catalan club’s opening £31 million bid for the player. Fabregas left Barca eight years ago to join the Gunners but after another season of impressive individual performances from the 24-year-old, the European Champions have rekindled their interest with an initial bid. According to The Mirror, Fabregas is keen to rejoin his former club in order to better his search for silverware having won nothing with Arsenal since 2005. Yet manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his desire to keep hold of his captain and will not cave in for anything less than £45 million.

Clichy wants new deal.

Gael Clichy hopes a deal can be struck with Liverpool this summer so he can continue plying his trade in the English Premier League. The French full-back is expected to be sold during this transfer window with just 12 months left on his contract but according to the Daily Express, he has no intention of leaving the country. Liverpool are interested in Clichy but will only be willing to pay £5 million for his services, while competitors Roma are ready to fork out £7 million for the 25-year-old left back. Despite the higher offer, Arsenal may be forced to accept Liverpool’s smaller bid for the stubborn Frenchman if they do not want to see him leave as a free agent next summer.
