Celtic news - Wanyama signs, Mulgrew considers USA switch, Damari talks break down

By David Redshaw

Friday 01 July 2011

Wanyama signs.

Victor Wanyama has finally agreed a move to Celtic subject to the player passing a medical and securing a work permit.

The Kenyan midfielder has moved from Belgian club Germinal Beerschot and a statement on the club´s Official Website said: “Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce they have agreed a fee with Germinal Beerschot for the transfer of Victor Wanyama, who has also agreed personal terms. Victor will join the club in the summer subject to a work permit and medical.”

As Kenya are not in the top 70 of FIFA´s rankings Wanyama will find his initial work permit application rejected, but Celtic are confident an immediate appeal would find in their favour as he is already an established international, despite being just 19-years-of-age.

Mulgrew considers USA switch.

Hoops defender Charlie Mulgrew is mulling over the possibility of representing the USA at international level.

The 25-year-old had a terrific second half of the season but failed to get the call from Scotland boss Craig Levein, and he is now considering using family ties to put him in contention for Bob Bradley´s side.

Mulgrew would prefer to play for the country of his birth but speaking to the Daily Record he said: “What can you do - apart from play away and hope international football will come? There is nothing I can do except work hard and hopefully catch the manager's eye.

“I qualify to play for the United States through my gran but I haven't heard anything about that. Maybe I would consider it, I don't know. I would prefer Scotland but I am focusing on Celtic for now.”

Damari talks break down.

According to The Herald, Celtic are getting ready to walk away from the deal to sign Israeli striker Omer Damari, with club sources denying they have made a bid for the player, let alone agreed a fee.

Talks with Maccabi Petah Tikva are still ongoing, despite the Israeli club´s chairman Amos Luzon claiming the Hoops had agreed a £2m fee and a significant sell-on clause.

“Celtic bought 70% of the player and when Celtic sell the player in one, two or three years, then we will have 30% of the price of the player,” said Luzon. “£2m buys 70% of the player.”

Maccabi Haifa have already offered to pay the asking price and Hoops boss Neil Lennon must now decide if he wants to meet it or search elsewhere.
