Arsenal news - Gervinho prefers Gunners move, Let Fabregas go says Sansom, No Oxlade-Chamberlain bid

By Luke Ricketts

Friday 01 July 2011

Gervinho prefers Gunners move.

£10 million-rated centre forward Gervinho has told The Guardian that he favours a move to Arsenal because he will be able to ‘integrate easily’ into the squad. The Gunners are close to settling on a deal with Lille for the Ivorian striker who scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 last season. Arsene Wenger has already been denied Gervinho’s teammate, the highly rated Eden Hazard who has decided to stay with the French club for the foreseeable future. Arsenal have been in talks to sign Gervinho for some time with a number of English clubs competing for his signature, but it looks now as though Wenger may have his man.

Let Fabregas go says Sansom.

Selling Cesc Fabregas may not be as bad as it seems; at least that is the opinion of former Gunner Kenny Sansom. He told The Telegraph, “Fabregas is a great player but for me £35m would be good money for him.” While the Spaniard edges closer to a deal with Barcelona, Arsene Wenger may face losing Samir Nasri to a club much closer to home. Both Manchester United and Manchester City are keen to sign the Frenchman who comes at cost somewhere in the region of £20 million. Sansom, who made over 300 appearances for Arsenal, believes his former club could survive losing its club captain and would benefit from the money they make from him, but the loss of Nasri would be one exit too many: “If you lose him and Nasri it would be a big blow.”

No Oxlade-Chamberlain bid.

No offer has been made by Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain according to his manager Nigel Adkins. The 17-year-old winger has caught the eye of a number of high profile clubs after he impressed for Southampton in League One last season, and it was alleged he was close to signing with the Gunners for an estimated sum of £12 million. Speaking to The Independent, Adkins put down any speculation involving the sought after youngster and hopes Chamberlain stays with the Saints, where he can take the next step up in the Championship after Southampton successfully won promotion from the third tier of English football last season.
