Man City news - Clichy set to sign, Savic agreement near, Players to be released

By Luke Ricketts

Monday 04 July 2011

Clichy set to sign.

Gael Clichy is expected to put pen to paper and join Manchester City within the next 24 hours according to reports in The Telegraph. The Frenchman has expressed no interest to extend his contract at Arsenal, which expires next year, but wants to continue plying his trade in the Premier League. Clichy is to undergo a medical within the next 24 hours and, if all goes to plan, will be Roberto Mancini’s first signing of the summer but almost certainly not his last. Fellow teammate Samir Nasri is also expected to leave the Emirates in the coming weeks with City favourites to sign him ahead of rivals Manchester United.

Savic agreement near.

Manchester City are edging closer to an agreement with Partizan Belgrade for 20 year-old centre back Stefan Savic, Sky Sports has revealed. The Serbian club have entered talks with City and could potentially deal by the weekend. Though nothing is still certain, Roberto Mancini seems convinced he has his man and told Italian journalists a deal had been struck for the young defender, though Partizan’s general secretary Darko Grubor has been more pragmatic and has said although they are close to an accord, it is yet to be finalised.

Players to be released.

Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bridge are among a number of Manchester City players to be cast out of the first team by Roberto Mancini. The Daily Mail report the likes of Bellamy, Bridge, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Emmanuel Adebayor will be forced to train elsewhere when preseason training commences on Tuesday in preparation for the new season. Mancini’s ruthless pruning of his squad could suggest he is willing to let said players leave Eastlands this summer, with Bellamy linked strongly with Celtic and Adebayor eager to return to La Liga with Real Madrid where is spent the second half of last season on loan.
