Man City news - Tevez bid accepted, Villa near Given deal, Onuoha to fight for place

By Luke Ricketts

Monday 18 July 2011

Tevez bid accepted.

Manchester City have accepted Corinthians’ revised offer for Carlos Tevez according to Sky Sports News.

City rejected a £39 million bid from the Brazilian club only last week, after they made it known they wanted £50 million from potential buyers if Tevez was to be allowed to leave while still under contract. Manager Roberto Mancini has confirmed the two clubs have come to an agreement for the player but the price has yet to be disclosed. Corinthians’ initial offer was considerably less than the asking price but the Sao Paulo-based club are eager to make Tevez their priority signing of the summer, despite opposition from Serie A giants Juventus.

Villa near Given deal.

Aston Villa are close to signing Man City’s backup shot stopper Shay Given for £3.5 million. Reports on the BBC Sport website suggest the Republic of Ireland international could be playing his home games at Villa Park next season having been denied the number one jersey at the Etihad stadium by Joe Hart. Villa manager Alex McLeish, who replaced Gerard Houllier in June, has been forced to make signing a goalkeeper a priority after the club’s first choice Brad Freidal opted to join Tottenham earlier this summer. Given has already undergone a medical and could be on his way within the next 24 hours.

Onuoha to fight for place.

Out-of-favour defender Nedum Onuoha believes he can still have a future with Man City despite being left out of his club’s preseason tour of North America. Onuoha, who spent the entirety of last season on loan to Sunderland, is among the likes of Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bridge to be omitted from the first team squad, but is confident there is still time to impress Roberto Mancini before new campaign. The 24-year-old told the Manchester Evening Standard: “At the end of the day, we might not be on tour but we've not been shown the door so we've got to keep going.”
