Man City news - Hart backs Aguero bid, Spurs confirm Ade interest, City to up Tevez price

By Luke Ricketts

Wednesday 20 July 2011

Hart backs Aguero bid.

Joe Hart has told The Sun he is confident Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero is the man to take the place of Carlos Tevez who will almost certainly leave the Manchester club this summer. Aguero scored 20 goals in La Liga last season, the same figure as countryman Tevez in the Premier League, and comes highly recommended by Hart’s teammate David Silva who played against him during his time at Valencia. City have agreed on a sum of £38 million for the 23-year-old Argentine and hope to have the deal tied up by the end of the week.

Spurs confirm Ade interest.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has admitted to the Guardian he is interested in Man City’s Emmanuel Adebayor – but only to loan. Adebayor signed for City in 2009 for £25 million but has failed to replicate the goal scoring form he showed at Arsenal. The 27-year-old went on loan to Real Madrid for the second half of last season and scored twice against Spurs in the quarter finals of the Champions League. Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has contemplated signing the player permanently but has set his sights on Santos’ Neymar and Sergio Aguero. A possible transfer to White Hart Lane is still up in the air, but Redknapp hopes an arrangement can be made: “I spoke to the chairman about loaning the player and if we could work out a deal for him, I would like to bring him to the club.”

City to up Tevez price.

According to a source of Sky Sports, Manchester City will raise the price of want-away striker Carlos Tevez to £50 million if a European club comes looking. City’s transfer negotiations with Brazilian club Corinthians have broken down, despite reaching an agreed fee of £40 million. It is thought Corinthians would have gone through with the deal, paying City in instalments over a four year period, had it not been for the Brazilian transfer window closing today. A bidding war will now ensue in Europe where clubs have until the end of August to strike a deal.
