Reds to sign Bijev.

According to Fox Sports, American teenager Viliyan Bijev has agreed terms to join Liverpool on a three year contract from Cal Odyssey.

The 18 year old averaged a goal a game this season and was capped for the United States under 18 side. Bijev impressed Liverpool scouts with five goals and two assists in two games against the Liverpool under 18 academy side.

Bijev is eligible for his work permit via the Bulgarian citizenship he holds through his father, who is now a renowned attorney in Northern California. The American forward had been on trial at Anfield and the Reds have taken up the option to sign Bijev.

3-0 Hull defeat.

After his side’s 3-0 defeat to Championship side Hull City, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish admitted he was worried by the errors made by his side, The Sun reports.

New signings Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam all featured for the Reds, but their introductions failed to give Liverpool any hope and they have now conceded nine goals in their first three pre-season fixtures. Dalglish acknowledges that it is pre-season, but knows his side have to tighten up defensively.

Dalglish said: ‘It is pre-season and it’s to get players fit and get rid of their mistakes, but I certainly think we’ve got a few mistakes to get rid of after today. Obviously, we’re disappointed at losing. It doesn’t matter whether it was a pre-season friendly or not, but the fact it is pre-season gives us a bit of solace.’

Gerrard fitness worry.

Liverpool could face up to the possibility of starting the season without their influential captain Steven Gerrard, the Sunday Mirror reports.

Gerrard is recovering from a second groin injury, suffered in March, and he has not played football since a 3-1 win over Manchester United last season. The 31 year old underwent groin surgery and is currently recovering to build his fitness. The injury is said to be more complicated than the Liverpool doctors first anticipated and they are ready to give Gerrard more time to recuperate.

The Liverpool skipper would miss the opening games of the season and would also miss England’s friendly against Holland on August 10th. He could be a major doubt for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales at Wembley on September 6th.
