Man City news - Aguero deal latest, Blues eye Johnson, Fergie City plan

By Luke Ricketts

Wednesday 27 July 2011

Aguero deal latest.

Sergio Aguero touched down in England on Tuesday evening to complete his transfer to Manchester City. Roberto Mancini hopes the technicalities of the transfer can be completed by the end of this week after Atletico Madrid accepted a bid £38m for the Argentinean. City are resigned to losing their captain and top goal scorer Carlos Tevez later this summer but are confident Aguero is a worthy replacement. According to the Mail the 23-year-old is expected to sign a five year deal and will earn £200,000 a week.

Blues eye Johnson.

Andre Villas-Boas is lining up an unexpected bid for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson, the Manchester Evening News understands. Johnson has struggled to hold down a place in Roberto Mancini’s starting XI, after the 24-year-old was sidelined for three months with damaged ankle ligaments at the beginning of the year. He made 31 appearances in total last season, though 16 of those were as a substitute. Chelsea are understood to be in the market for a winger that will add width to the team, something they were criticised of lacking last season. Villas-Boas is yet to dip into the transfer market this summer but is believed to be fond of the England international.

Fergie City plan.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has given Man City a word of warning that he will use next month’s Community Shield to silence his ‘noisy neighbours’. Ferguson has admitted Roberto Mancini’s men are a force to be reckoned with this season and have the personnel to challenge the league title, though he remains confident his side can get one over on them before the season officially begins on 13 August. The Citizens made their intentions clear last term when they ended a 35-year cup drought with the FA Cup, beating United in the semi-final.
