Arsenal news - Gunners prepare £15m Jagielka bid, Gervinho wants to emulate Henry, Diaby injury set-back
Gunners prepare £15m Jagielka bid.
Arsenal are preparing a bid of £15m for Everton’s Phil Jagielka after their initial bid of £10 million was rejected by the Merseyside club, the Mail understands. Manager Arsene Wenger has been a long term admirer of the defender and made a £12m offer for the player last year. Wenger now hopes his persistence pays off and his latest proposal is deemed sufficient enough to prise him away from the Toffees, who value the England international at somewhere closer to £18m.

Gervinho wants to emulate Henry.
Summer signing Gervinho is confident he has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry and become a prolific goal scorer for Arsenal. The Ivorian hopes he will be able to adapt quickly to the physicality and pace of the English game, having previously plied his trade in France’s Ligue One with Lille. The 24-year-old scored 18 goals last season and has already opened his account with the Gunners with two inside 15 minutes against Cologne on his debut. Gervinho is Arsene Wenger’s first major signing of the summer but the manager is convinced his style of play will gel well with the team. Wenger told The Telegraph: “We have seen what he can bring to the team and he contributes to the high pace we have in the team.”
Diaby injury set-back.
Arsenal will be without midfielder Abou Diaby for the beginning of the season after he was ruled out for 10 weeks after surgery on his ankle. Arsenal revealed to the Guardian earlier today that the player has undergone an operation on his ankle earlier this summer and is unlikely to feature until September, missing important matches against Manchester United and Liverpool. Diaby’s untimely injury means Arsenal are in short supply in the centre of midfield, after the North London club allowed Denilson to leave to Sao Paulo and with the future of Cesc Fabregas still up in the air.
