Man City news - Adebayor deal hits snag, City to kick-off new Premier League season tonight, Toure back in training following drugs ban

By Luke Ricketts

Monday 15 August 2011

Adebayor deal hits snag.

Tottenham Hotspur have demanded Manchester City pay half of Emmanuel Adebayor’s hefty wage packet if the north London club are to take him off their hands on loan. Harry Redknapp told the Sunday Mirror that he is not willing to give the City striker any special treatment and will only offer a non-negotiable £60,000 a-week salary - £100,000 less than his current weekly earnings. City were hopeful Real Madrid would pay the £14 million they want for the player after his impressive loan spell with the Spanish club in the second half of last season. Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho was believed to be interested in the Togo international earlier in the summer but has since gone off the idea with other targets in mind, leaving Spurs’ ultimatum as the only other alternative.

City to kick-off new Premier League season tonight.

Man City begin their season tonight against Premier League newcomers Swansea City without their wantaway talisman Carlos Tevez, according to Skysports. The Blues are considered to be realistic contenders for the title this term having immersed themselves in the transfer market on the likes of Sergio Aguero, and defenders Gael Clichy and Stefan Savic - although record signing Aguero is only expected to play 45 minutes at best as he is still to find match fitness. Brendan Rogers’ side were renowned for their slick football in the Championship last season and will hope to replicate it in the top flight when they get underway tonight at the Etihad stadium.

Toure back in training following drugs ban.

Kolo Toure has returned to training after he was banned in March 2011 for failing a drugs test. The Ivorian defender was found to have the prohibited substance Bendroflumethiazide in his system, although he denies taking it knowingly. It is thought to have been consumed naively by the 30-year-old who was taking tablets he believed were diet pills given to him by his wife. Toure is not allowed to play for Man City until September but has been given permission to begin training by the FA in order to be fit as soon as his expulsion expires. The earliest Toure can be expected to play is September 10 against Wigan Athletic.
